Act One Pictures was established as the production division of Voice & Video, a highly respected leader in A/V services in Southern California since 1973. In 1980 David Gimbel, along with two other partners, purchased Voice & Video and changed the focus of that business toward the sales and repair of audio & video equipment.
In June of 2006, Act One Pictures moved to its current location on Vickers Street and was then purchased by Kathleen St. Peter and Robert Borer. Since the purchase, the management has updated its equipment list to include more of the older formats as well as expanding on the latest technologies. Other improvements include bringing in the latest in film transfer equipment, construction of a small in-house recording studio and add an additional edit suite.
Customer service is what we are all about. We will do whatever it takes to make you look good and relieve your stress. All nighters and long weekends are the norm at Act One.
Kathleen St. Peter- Owner
As a long time entrepreneur in San Diego, Kathleen has owned several local successful businesses like Deli Wishes in Carlsbad, Poway Printing in Poway, and Popcorn Entertainment in Oceanside. Along with assisting in video productions and film transfers, she spends most of her time volunteering at elementary schools and in a Carlsbad art gallery. Kathleen loves to stay busy and is a true visionary.
Robert A. Borer- Producer, Director, Cameraman, Production Manager
Before coming to Act One Pictures, Robert was a photographer, videographer and editor for over 20 years with Popcorn Entertainment, which mainly focused on weddings, slideshows, and other related events. In 2001, Robert joined the morning news team at San Diego’s KUSI TV as a camera operator and then was quickly promoted to a director. With over 8 years education in television & theatre and 30 years plus experience in video production, Robert has brings his own fresh and unique style to your “final cut”. Robert is a member of the San Diego Film Commission, and is also the captain of the Coastal Carvers, a semi-professional sandsculpture team.
Sherry Butay- Project Manager, EditorOne of Act One Pictures finest and longest standing project managers. Her expertise with older media formats and transfers is well known in the San Diego audio/video community. A graduate of UCSD with a Bachelor of Science in Communication degree, she has evolved into one of our finest editors. Sherry has been with Act One Pictures since 1999.
Brian Thompson- Director, Photographer
Act One Pictures award winning film director and photographer. Although music videos as seen on MTV and other music channels are Brian’s specialty, He has directed a few feature movies and spends a lot of his time writing and rewriting scripts. He has an excellent eye for composition, lighting and movement. We are a very proud of Brian’s talent and accomplishments.
George Strothers – Director of PhotographyAct One Pictures Director of Videography. George has over 20 years of professional experience in video camera operation. George is very knowledgeable with most video formats, lighting and audio equipment. When you need your shoot done right the one and only time, George will be the videographer assigned to your project.
Robert Burrows – Cameraman, Grip
Act One Pictures primary camera operator. Robert has over 10 years experience in video camera operation. Rated a “A” camera operator, he has experience with general productions and weddings. Robert has expertise with lighting and sound equipment. He also runs 2nd camera and grips for our commercial productions.
Matt Cowgil – CameramanAct One Pictures primary on-call camera operator. Matt has over 15 years experience in video camera operation with over 5 years at KUSI TV, and a regular cameraman for the San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, and Qualcom Stadium and Petco Park events.
Tammy Rice- Photographer
Act One Pictures primary on-call photographer. Tammy has over 10 years of experience in corporate, family and product photography. Along with her photographic expertise and dynamic personality, Tammy also has a very creative style, especially if you're looking for something “outside the box”. See Demo’s for samples of her work.
Mark Royer - Web Designer
Act One Pictures primary on-call web site designer and search engine optimizer. Mark (Knowledge Solutions) designed this website and has developed hundreds of others. Mark is also a specialist with search optimization and other web development. See Demo’s for samples of his work.
Mark Jacobson – Grip, Cameraman
Act One Pictures primary grip and 2nd camera operator. Mark has over 15 years experience in video production, and acts as a second camera operator on muli-camera shoots. Past experience includes general production operation at KPSP in Temecula, KUSI TV in San Diego and with the Armed Forces Television and Radio Network.
