Act One Pictures uses non-destructive non-linear video editing software. Editing can go very quickly or go on for days, weeks and even months. The more prepared you are, the more efficiently everything can happen. Almost every production needs a script. From a single clip to a full length feature film, at some point some form of audio and video scripting will have to be done even if it to just list the order of pictures in a slideshow, or when a video clip or song should start and end. The “ideal” script would be in the form of a screenplay with storyboards. Of course, most of our customers can scale way back to just an edit decision list! Editing Services:
This has become one of the most popular services in this digital age for those who need video and audio files on their own computer or external hard drive. We have one of the most comprehensive collections of equipment available in the United States from most of the past and present formats, in SD and HD. We will use the highest possible transfer cabling for the format, whether it’s standard RCA type audio/video, S-Video, Component, XLR, Firewire, USB, fiber optic, HDMI, or any other type of input/output connection. Act One ensures the highest possible quality transfer available today. We primarily use MAC’s with Final Cut Pro for the capture, but have other various capture applications on our PC platforms. During the capture, we can load the files directly onto your external hard drive*, or afterwords. We can also convert or compress the original format (.mov, .avi, etc) to any other format for your particular requirements.
Any transfer, capture, finished project, or raw media in our system can be transferred to a hard drive. You can bring in your own or purchase one from us. A good rule of thumb is plan on 13 Gigabytes for each hour of standard def raw video and 20 GB for high def. We can format a drive to either platform you would like or leave as is*.
*Please be aware that some pre-formatted drives might only accept files 4GB or less depending on how they there formatted and the established file read size.
MAC platforms work best with “.mov” (Quicktime) files while PC’s work best with “.avi” files. It really depends on the application you will be working and viewing the files in. We always try to work with the un-compressed, high quality video and then after all work has been done, export to the file type customized to the, size, bit rate, and other compression factors required by the client. Most audio files are in the .aif format during the editing and then converted to .wav or mp3 when exporting. For a complete updated list of files types and platforms, please contact our office.
A part of any entertainment and commercial video may be adding special effects. We use high end editing hardware and software to create wonderful and unique special effects, from a simple dissolve to pretty much any effect you can think of! Color correction and modification is another much sought after procedure, especially for preparing older video and film transfer for broadcast television. Audio effects and corrections are also a big part of creating the right sound for your project. We have a huge sound effect library and offer many audio filters and equalization applications to fix natural previous sound recordings and most other quality problems.
We can create standard text and graphics through a host of applications, as well as motion text and 3-D animation. If you have your own custom graphics, PowerPoint presentations or large amounts of text, you can supply them and we can import them directly into your new project. The possibilities are endless…your imagination is the only limitation.
Compression is where a large video file is electronically squeezed to fit into a smaller file and mainly used for web sites and uploading to YouTube and other sites. Compression is also done to fit your movie onto a DVD. For example one hour of standard raw video is about 10-13 Gigabytes. A DVD can only hold 4.7 Gigabytes. So the computer software starts to copy then repeat certain elements from the raw video so it doesn’t have to remember every pixel frame by frame. Compression can take up to 2-4 times the final duration of the video. We use the two-pass compression system to get the best quality possible. Other Web services include uploading and downloading video and other files, converting file formats and capturing video off the internet.
Most audio, video and image files can be downloaded and uploaded from the internet. Mainly used for internal use, many files may be subject to copyright laws. Act One can help you sort out and find the files suitable for use. We can upload your files to YouTube or other web and ftp sites. Compression and file conversion services are available.
Authoring a DVD normally involves the creation of a "menu" with playback options when you insert the DVD into a player or press menu on the player's remote. An “authored” DVD is an interactive DVD. It’s interactive like a CD-Rom except that it’s a DVD, which means you get DVD quality and it holds up to two hours of video. Rather than have to watch a video from start to finish, you can jump ahead to any point in the video. Menus can be very simple with a single “Press Play To Start” button to a very sophisticated multi screens, multi tracks and multi chapter options. We can design colorful menu screens with still or motion buttons. If you’ve ever seen a movie on DVD you’ll recognize this! Training and testing of employees can be administered with multiple-choice questions that are programmed to review material and retest for wrong answers and move forward for correct answers. We can create DVDs and menus in domestic and foreign formats and languages. Continous looping of the video is also a function of authoring. DVD applications are limitless!
Most video can be put onto CD for viewing. These are typicaly highly compressed files used for computer viewing and use on the internet. They can also be use as a hard copy. Mainly used for internal use, Compression and file conversion services are available.
Besides standard filters that can be applied within our audio applications, we also have high-end audio software that can restore most soundtracks.
We offer two methods of capturing a single frame of video.
A) Photographic print style from a television frame printer.
B) Computer generated jpeg output to a inkjet/laser printer at 640x480 resolution.
